The TGR 1000 Kalahari Botswana Desert Race recently took place in Jwaneng, Botswana, as a part of the SA National Rally-Raid Championship. In the special vehicle category, new overall and class emerged, shaking up the standings for the second half of the season.
Despite a somewhat disapointing result in the desert race, defending champions Tim Howes and Gary Campbell (Tim Drew Property Developments BAT Spec 4) maintain the overall lead with 71 points. John Thomson and Maurice Zermatten (Zarco Challenger), who missed the season opener, secured victory in the Botswana event and are in second place overall with 55 points. Glen Theron and Craig Galvin (Moto-Netix Can-Am Maverick) moved up to third place with 53 points, only two points behind the second-place team.
